Welcoming students in September 2000, University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNM) is the first British university overseas campus in the world. It’s been recognized for its academic achievements and is described as “the closest the UK has to a truly global university” in publications such as The Times Good University Guide 2015. With campuses in the UK, China and Malaysia, UNM provides a platform for global collaboration and exchange.
UNM Malaysia was also honored with a prestigious 5-star rating for The Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE) Hub for the year 2020 at the annual Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA).
In September 2005, UNM Malaysia relocated to its current purpose-built site in Semenyih, a town in Hulu Langat District, located just 30km south of Kuala Lumpur. This relocation marked a significant milestone in the campus’ growth and development, offering an ideal environment for academic pursuits and student life.
The new campus which is situated on a beautiful 125-acre property is surrounded by greenery and nature trails. It is designed to mirror the University Park Campus in Nottingham, offering a self-contained and vibrant village atmosphere for its students.
UNM Malaysia students can enjoy the convenience of residing in a comfortable environment as the campus is well equipped with a broad range of both academic as well as non-academic facilities to cater to their needs.
Students will have access to a range of recreational facilities and this includes a purpose-built sports complex which comprises numerous sports amenities such as squash courts, basketball courts, badminton courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts and more! Other than that, there is also a martial arts room, a swimming pool and a gymnasium for all fitness enthusiasts. This is to encourage students to participate in physical activities or simply to unwind after a long day of classes.
UMNC Malaysia offers on campus accommodations which are conveniently located just within walking distance to academic buildings and on campus conveniences such as food and beverage outlets, retails shops, and outdoor as well as indoor sports facilities.
With a total of 11 halls of residence amounting to around 2,400 beds, University of Nottingham Malaysia accommodation includes a variety of room types suitable for different budgets and preferences. These rooms include single ensuite bathroom, twin shares, and for shared rooms with an option of with or without air conditioning. The university also provides rooms for special needs, ensuring that all UNM students have access to comfortable accommodation options.
There are also off campus accommodation options available where some are just within walking distance from the campus. However, these are privately owned properties where students need to liaise directly with the landlord.
Home to about 5,000 students and close to 700 teaching and administrative staff members from 85 different countries, this university represents a vibrant and culturally diverse community.
